What type of laser do we use?
We have worked with Cynosure UK for 12 years; we specialise and currently use the Elite + technology. This Grade 4 medical machine offers dual wavelengths, known as Alexandrite 755nm and NdYAG 1064nm. This allows us to customise treatments to suit all skin types.

How does laser hair removal work?
Laser Hair Removal is a non-invasive treatment that reduces hair growth through a process called selective photo-thermolysis. To keep it simple, the Laser emits a light that is absorbed by the pigment/melanin within the hair. The energy from the light is converted to heat which then damages the hair follicle (The Dermal Papilla to be exact as this is responsible for feeding and regenerating new hair). As a result of the thermal damage, further hair growth is inhibited.
It is important to point out that this treatment will only work during the Anagen stage of hair growth. Most aren’t aware that our hairs go through three different stages of hair growth, also referred to as the hair growth cycle.
These cycles are broken down into the following –
1. Anagen- The active growing stage
2. Catagen- The transitional stage
3. Telogen- The resting stage
The Growing stage (Anagen) is when the root of the hair is at its largest, therefore will contain more pigment, which ultimately means more heat can be created when the laser light is emitted.

Is laser hair removal permanent?
The simple and truthful answer is no! Laser hair removal works by heating the hair follicles to stop new hairs from growing. This puts the hair follicles in a state of dormancy for a long period of time, much longer than with shaving/ waxing/epilating etc. When the hairs do grow back, they’ll be lighter, finer, and fewer in number. After an initial course of treatments maintenance will always be required to maintain the results. Therefore, a permanent removal can never be guaranteed.
-
How many treatments will I need?
For the desired results we recommend a minimum of 8-10 sessions carried out every 4 weeks (face) or 6 weeks (body) initially . Once a good reduction is achieved, we gradually push the treatment intervals further and further apart, which then takes us to regular maintenance/top up treatments. These sessions are required to maximise and maintain the results, the duration can vary from 3 months to 1 years varying from client to client. If treatments aren’t carried out with the correct intervals this can result in more treatments being needed long term.
-
Does it work on all hair types?
No, unfortunately not. For the treatment to be responsive there must be enough melanin/ dark pigment within a course hair follicle (referred to as Terminal hair). The laser doesn’t acknowledge blonde, red, white, or grey hairs. This is also the same for fine/medium hairs. Some areas of the body can be very sensitive to stimulation if the hair isn’t suitable initially, for example the female face, thighs, and arms.
-
What does laser feel like, and does it hurt?
The sensation varies from client to client, but yes, you will certainly feel the laser. We try to make the experience as comfortable as possible, for example we use a cryo cooling system combined with ultrasound gel. It is often described as a hot pin prick or like an elastic band flicking of the skin. Many clients would agree that the results far out way a short moment of discomfort.
-
Is there an age requirement?
We require clients to be a minimum of 18 years old
-
Can I get treatment if pregnant?
No, unfortunately not. We also advise against treatment until breastfeeding has more or less come to an end and women’s menstrual cycle has restarted. This can vary from client to client so always contact the clinic to discuss your postpartum options.
-
Can you get laser hair removal on any area of the body?
Yes, but it wont work! At NC Clinic we have days when we turn just as many clients away as we take on. As mentioned previously the hair must be thick and dark for the treatment to be responsive. This hair is more commonly known as terminal hair, this develops during or after puberty. The areas that most commonly respond well to treatment permanently are the lower legs, bikini and underarm.
-
Are there any side-effects?
Side-effects are usually minor, for example localised redness, swelling and temporary irritation. Laser Hair removal is safe and not linked to any short/long-term health conditions. Prior to every treatment, clients will be asked of any medical changes as some medications can cause undesired adverse reactions to the treatment.

What is your cancellation policy?
Any cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice prior to an appointment will be required to pay another deposit if rebooking. If a client has any medical changes, then we are to be told at least 48 hours prior to an appointment, therefor any changes can be made. If we aren’t made aware and are unable to treat, then this will be classed as a late cancellation and a new deposit will need to be taken. If a client has FALSE TAN in the area, or natural tan (UK and sunbeds included), and we aren’t made aware 48 hours prior then this will again also be classed as a late cancellation and another deposit will need to be taken. If a client is a NO SHOW, the deposit will be removed, and the full cost of their next treatment will be taken before rebooking. In the case of clients who have purchased packages then they will forfeit 1 treatment. Cancellations can be made during working hours via telephone (VOICEMAIL MUST BE LEFT IF UNANSWERED), email, Facebook (NC Clinic page) or Instagram (NC Clinic page). Again, all must be made with no less than 48 hours prior to the scheduled appointment. If a client continues to not adhere to clinic policy, we reserve the right to terminate any future bookings.
